Classification System

Para-karate uses a functional classification model — the K1–K10 system — which groups athletes by what they can do, not by their specific diagnosis. Two athletes with different conditions may compete in the same class if their functional output is equivalent.

Classification is conducted by certified classifiers at national and international events. Athletes must hold a valid classification before competing in any sanctioned para-karate event. Re-classification is mandatory if function changes significantly.
